On June 28, 2024, the multi-category cross-border sports platform ISPO SHANGHAI 2024 grandly opened at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. More than 600 renowned domestic and international brands and suppliers showcased their products across climbing and hiking, urban sports, running and cycling, water sports, children's sports, outdoor leisure, lifestyle, and sports technology and new materials. The 40,000 square meter exhibition area presented the latest trends and innovations in the sports market to professionals and enthusiasts alike.

Among the exhibiting brands, international names accounted for about 30%, representing 22 countries and regions. The British Department of Commerce and Trade, along with several well-known brands, formed the British Pavilion for the first time at ISPO, showcasing the British passion for adventure travel, outdoor fashion, cycling, rugby, football, and swimming. This initiative fostered trade exchanges between the Chinese and British outdoor industries. Brands from Canada, Japan, and other countries also displayed their new developments and unique styles, highlighting the vibrancy and limitless potential of China's sports outdoor lifestyle market from a global perspective.

 

Promoting Industrial Transformation with Forward-Looking Perspectives

The "China Mermaid Open", hosted by the Water Sports Management Center of the State Sports General Administration, made its debut at ISPO. Concurrently, the Water Sports Management Center and ISPO jointly released the "Sport and Outdoor Industry Watershed Protection and Sustainability Programme" for the sports outdoor industry. This plan encourages water sports enthusiasts and professionals to enhance their awareness of water conservation and promote the sustainable development of water sports.

In the presence of leaders from the Winter Sports Management Center of the State Sports General Administration, UTO unveiled its new Chinese ice and snow base layer products, which will accompany the Chinese national team to the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.

The growing demand for diverse travel experiences has spurred the integration of automobiles and outdoor life. The China Automobile Dealers Association and ISPO signed the "Strategic Cooperation on Car Journey" to enhance communication and cooperation between the automobile and outdoor industries, promoting the continuous development of the car travel lifestyle.

Fashion and sustainability remain hot topics in the sports lifestyle industry. The unveiling of 25A/W Sustainable Sports Fashion Trend of Asia once again inspired sports colors and new methods of sustainable circular design. ISPO Textrends Award spotlighted the breakthroughs of the winning products in new applications and functions, providing crucial inspiration and guidance for sports fashion and sustainability.

JD Sports & Outdoor released the "List of Top Sports & Outdoor Shoes and Clothing," featuring categories such as waterproof jackets, trail running shoes, hiking boots, creek shoes, and outdoor backpacks. The exhibition included themed displays, live broadcasts, and both online and offline activities to showcase outdoor trends in various scenarios.

ISPO Brand New Force Hub doubled its participating brands, focusing on lightweight materials, design innovation, and sustainability. This area highlighted the diverse styles and innovative vitality of emerging brands.

Taobao and Tmall Outdoor Sports, under the theme "Sunshine Knows the Answer", promoted new trends in sun protection clothing through the “sun protection clothing hexagon” and “Tmall standard hexagon blue label & black label”, providing consumers with scientific references to help them make informed choices and fostering the healthy development of the industry.

 

Innovation with Integrity: Leading Industry Trends

As a platform for promoting sports lifestyles, ISPO is dedicated to providing inclusive opportunities for experiencing new trends.

The Water Sports Area expanded significantly this year, offering a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as pool paddle boarding, surfing simulation, electronic music parties, and diving. ISPO Shanghai also introduced national-level events like the China Mermaid Open, showcasing the power and beauty of competitive events.

The ISPO Sports Park, well-received last year, expanded to include ten major sports themes, providing richer experiences for enthusiasts of all ages.

The Car Journey with Coffee area integrated car journey and beverages, creating an immersive experience area and promoting the blend of cars and outdoor leisure lifestyles to a broader audience.

ISPO Cycling Lifestyle Hub offered a full-scene cycling experience, both indoors and outdoors. The indoor exhibition featured complete bicycles, apparel, accessories, and equipment, while the outdoor Cycling Life Festival combined product displays and fun competitions, creating a cycling-friendly exhibition.

ISPO also expanded Kids Sports, introducing activities like equestrian, archery, baseball, and floorball. The Kids Sports Hub featured a nature education market and outdoor skill challenges, attracting many young enthusiasts.

The Sports and Cultural Carnival, as part of the support of ISPO to the national fitness strategy, opened again in Shanghai with richer content, promoting the trend of national fitness.

The Urban Sports Zone continued its one-stop experience, with indoor and outdoor areas for sports like Frisbee, pickleball, yoga, balance boarding, and land surfing. ISPO expanded Yukigassen, allowed participants to enjoy snowball fights in midsummer, enhancing urban social interaction.

The ISPO Climbing Hub, themed in purple, presented classic activities, e.g. Fun Climbing Competition and Free Lectures, and introduced a "Dedicated to Women Climbers" photography exhibition to promote industry exchanges and the fun of rock climbing.

To promote the joy of sports and enrich sports life, ISPO and Douyin National Sports launched the topic #Moments of Being Influenced by Outdoor Sports, inviting sports experts, enthusiasts, and the public to share videos on outdoor sports, styles, and equipment, expanding the influence of the sports outdoor lifestyle through social media.

 

Professional Empowerment: Ensuring Stable Industry Development

This exhibition connected the industry's upstream and downstream sectors, focusing on hot topics like sports trends, camping education, marine protection, nature education, and retail innovation to explore development trends.

The ISPO Sports Fashion Trend Forum, tailored for designers and product managers, has been the most forward-looking forum of ISPO. It provided insights and guidance for color and material selection, functional design, and sustainable production in the sports industry.

ISPO and ICE Camping Research Institute launched the 2024 ISPO Camping Education Forum, exploring opportunities for integrating outdoor sports and youth education, and sharing opportunities and successful cases to promote the sustainable and integrated development of outdoor sports, camping and youth education.

Guided by the Water Sports Management Center, ISPO held the first National Marine Conservation Meeting, raising public awareness through professional technology sharing and marine protection knowledge.

The ISPO Sports & Lifestyle Stage hosted about 20 discussions on brand marketing models and sports outdoor brand ecology. The ISPO Sports Future Stage addressed challenges of new brands, featuring cross-border e-commerce platforms like eBay, Temu, Shopee, and AliExpress, helping brands expand into overseas markets.
